MEET THE FARMER
Go Off-Grid with Us at Animal Farm
Dip in and discover the delicious squash, squash blossoms, and gypsy peppers brought to you by the folks at Animal Farm.
Animal Farm Permaculture Center sits on 78 acres of land on the East-Central Texas Plains near Cat Springs, Texas. The unassuming plot on the way to Houston started as undeveloped land in 1998, and from there, owners Cas and Gita Van Woerden built their home and eventually cultivated 25 acres. Their land and home are completely off the grid, traversed using electric golf carts powered by their solar array.
Animal Farm is certified organic and provides heirloom varieties of vegetables along with edible and decorative flowers. Animal Farm is a staple at farmers markets and restaurants in Houston and Austin, and is now featured at Pullman Market in San Antonio. Pullman Market Chef of Sourcing and Receiving, Alfred Francese, discovered Animal Farm at the Urban Harvest Farmers Market in Houston during his early days as a chef:
"I continued to source from [Animal Farm] in the Austin restaurants I worked for, and it’s been an incredible journey to still have access to their products in San Antonio," he says.
The dedication and innovation behind Animal Farm ensure that every vegetable and flower they produce is of the highest quality, offering flavors that are vibrant and unforgettable. Their produce adds a burst of freshness to any dish, making each meal a celebration of seasonal, locally-grown goodness. Find them in the produce section at Pullman Market.
